To climb, or not to climb?

Uluru is a significant tourist destination and instantly recognisable symbol of Australia but how much do we really value the rock?

Enough not to climb it?

Uluru is sacred to the Anangu, the local Indigenous people who are responsible for the land. They ask you not to climb through signs and information at the cultural centre.

However the choice is yours and the climb itself is only closed in adverse weather or if the Anangu need it for ceremony.

From the base of the steep 300-metre climb, Off Track finds out — to climb or not to climb.

First broadcast on RN’s Off Track in July, 2013.
