In March 2016 the Australian Senate made history by sitting for a marathon 28 hours.

While Labor and several independents tried to hold up the vote, the Liberal Government had a clear majority and the outcome was pre-determined. The reform was passed.

The issue that caused the filibuster? Not marriage equality or climate change. The issue was changes to how the Upper House was voted in.

The new voting system would make it harder for micro-parties to be represented in the senate.

To mark this chapter in Australia’s voting history Mike Williams and Timothy Nicastri created Sleepless in the Senate, a remix of the highlights from those 28 hours.
